Work Experience in London

Work experience is one of the best ways to improve your employment prospects. It gives you a chance to learn and develop your professional skills in a real world environment. It also provides future employers with an assurance of your experience and dedication. 

Through our UK partner we can offer three different types of work experience programmes:

Paid Work experience

Our paid work experience courses are designed to make things as easy as possible. We provide classroom lessons to develop your skills and job interviews through our partner company to get you into work.

Course content

Before starting your work experience, the course requires you to reach a good standard of English. So we ask that you spend at least four weeks studying at least 20 lessons per week of General English.

General English classes – combining group activities with individual tasks, these classes focus on the everyday skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Option classes – to complement your General English, you can pick ’grammar’, ‘conversation’ ‘pronunciation’ or 'Business English as an Option class.

On completion of your classroom course, our UK partner will work with you to find suitable work experience at a company that suit your personal career goals

Find work quickly – our UK partner arranges lots of job interviews so you can find employment much faster

Two months ongoing support by our UK partner – to help you improve your interview technique and find the type of job you want

Target a range of jobs – including chambermaid, fast food service, kitchen porter, receptionist, sales assistant, waiter/ waitress and more …

Get paid for your work – typical salaries for our UK partners work experience placements range from £ 165-235 per week

Keep working – our UK partner's work placements last for a minimum of eight weeks, but if your employer agrees, you can continue your employment indefinitely

To apply for a Paid Work Experience, you must be aged 18 or over and have a minimum A2 lower Intermediate level of English. You must also be a European Union (EU) national. We regret that non-EU nationals are restricted by immigration rules from participating in work experience.

You must also be available to work for a minimum of eight weeks.

Cost for this programme:
£ 280 on top of your English tuition fees 

Work Placement Examples:

Chambermaid - £ 180-200 (per week)
This position requires a basic level of English, you usually have afternoons free.

Receptionist - £  200-255 (per week)
This position requires experience, good presentation, very high level of English and other languages are preferred.

Waiter/tress - £ 195-250 (per week)
Medium/high level of English and some experience.This is the most popular job in terms of demand and availability (possibility of tips).

Fast Food - £ 190-215 (per week)
Medium level of English, this job offers flexible hours.

Washing-up/Kitchen Porter - £ 180-200 (per week)
Low level of English, hard work and long hours.

Professional Work Experience (unpaid)

Professional Work Experience or an internship is one of the best ways to improve your employment prospects. It gives you a chance to learn and develop your professional skills in a real world environment. It also provides future employers with an assurance of your experience and dedication.

Course content

Before starting your internship, our UK partner provides class time to help build your confidence and skill. We ask that you spend at least four weeks studying at least 20 lessons per week of General English.

General English classes – combining group activities with individual tasks, these classes focus on the everyday skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking

On completion of your classroom course, our UK partner arranges an internship at a company that suits your personal career goals:

Choose from a range of industries – including advertising, architecture, catering, education, engineering, fashion, finance, galleries and museums, hospitality, IT, law, marketing, sales and many more…

Work with a personal supervisor from our UK partner – who oversees your time in the company, providing advice, monitoring your progress, and ensuring your work programme is fulfilling your needs

Receive a reference – from the company that you can put straight on your CV To apply for an internship through our UK partner, you must be aged 18 or over, have a university degree or be studying towards one, and display at least an upper-intermediate level of English (equivalent to Cambridge First Certificate). You must also be a European Union (EU) national. We regret that non-EU nationals are restricted by immigration rules from participating in work experience.

Please also bear in mind that internships are usually unpaid. Although companies will often contribute towards transport and lunch expenses.

£ 600 on top of your English tuition fees 

Volunteering with a local charity

In association with some of our local charities including Oxfam our UK partner has created a great opportunity to gain volunteer experience and build your CV in the UK at the same time as improving your English.Working in an charity shop you will be involved in the following types of tasks: serving customers window dressing, sorting donations, assisting with social media.You can work and study at the same time with a typical shift being 4 hours per day.

Course content

Study hard at our UK partner to prepare yourself for the volunteering which can take place while you study or if you prefer once you have completed your studies. If you choose to study and volunteer at the same time you can choose between studying in the morning and volunteering in the afternoon or vice versa. (15 lessons in the morning or 10 lessons in the afternoon) The minimum placement and course length is 4 weeks.

Typical Student Profile for our Volunteering Programme:

  • Minimum age 16 
  • Intermediate level of English or above - B1 
  • Mature, confident and outgoing personality 
  • Reliable, hard-working and motivated 
  • Available to EU nationals and students with a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) Visa

There is no fee for placement, only your English language class fee
